Republicans bar Globe reporter from vote on rightward-lurching party platform

Huffington Post reports the Mass. GOP barred a Globe reporter from a vote last night on whether to adopt a state platform that would include a call for ban on all abortions, even in cases of rape and incest, and which would come out against same-sex marriage.

Some Republican muscle is quoted as saying he strongarmed the Globie out of the vote to make sure a Worcester Telegram and Gazette reporter had a fair shake at covering the debate, in what must have been a telephone booth or cardboard box in which there just wasn't enough room for the media horde of, um, two reporters. As these things so often do nowadays, the debate moved onto Twitter, where the Republican bouncer said the Globe reporter (and the Phoenix's David Bernstein) should just go work for Elizabeth Warren.

In the end, it seems, our little Party of Lincoln tabled the whole thing.

The Worcester T&G and the Boston Glob (sic) are subsidiaries of the same company (NYTCO). Maybe they could've shared notes?

Baring reporters tells me that the MA Republican party is not proud of their platform and they want to hide it from the public.

You'd hope they'd learn a different lesson: that their agenda for women's reproductive rights sucks , is unpopular, and they shouldn't try to fob it off on Massachusetts as law.

Also Republican Tim Buckley of Medfield Mass is a thug. He shouldn't be bullying female reporters from the Globe.

Oh, absolutely, all that goes without saying in my mind. I was thinking beyond the repugnance of the party and move right to finding ways to expose it to the largest audience.

Let them keep their clothes on, for crying out loud. I mean, fall is nearly here; they could catch cold!

if i recall correctly Obama did the same thing while in Boston. Liberals = double standard (not all but most). If all of us voted for the individual and not the party we as a country would be better off. A great example is the Warren / Brown race, both are absolutely not the best candidate for the job.

...or it didn't happen.

But if you don't know how to spell an insult correctly, we can't expect you to know the difference between a private campaign event and a public meeting to discuss policy issues of a major political party.

Still waiting for the proof that was asked for!

Meanwhile the city and state legislature bodies, dominated by Democrats, often ignore open meeting laws and regularly conduct business behind closed doors.

Does the media make a big stink about that? Nope! Nice double standard they have for outrage.

Really how hard would it be for the city/state to buy am $80 flip camera from Staples/Bestbuy, record meetings, and post them to an official city/statehouse YouTube channel? If middle school students can pull that off, why can't the city/state?

They really don't want the public seeing the no-shows and the corruption blatantly taking place in chambers. These are people that supposedly WORK FOR US. So why don't we have a right to observe them working in our supposed interest?

In Texas it's the GOP.

That really isn't a partisan issue, but a transparency issue at the local level. Both here and there I think you'll find bipartisan support from citizens, and push back from the local pols.

republikkkans wrap themselves in The Bill of Rights when it comes to owning assault rifles and then use that same Bill of Rights for toilet tissue when it comes to free speech. Vote for the GOP and you get what your ignorant ass deserves.
