Smashup under Charles/MGH

Smashed car

Nick Sanchez, who took this photo underneath the Red Line stop around 1:30 p.m., reports the driver was removed and put on a stretcher - no doubt for the short trip across the street to MGH.

I don't understand this photo. Is that the SW corner of the intersection between the T and the offramp for the boston bound bridge? And if so, how the hell did they get there at that angle?

Coming off the bridge (in the Boston-bound direction), they probably hit another car (perhaps in the front right tire/bumper area) -- or they swerved to avoid another car -- which would've pushed them to the left into the immovable object (light pole). The impact with the light pole may have spun the car over into that odd angle.

car traveling away from the photo hit the pole near the left headlight, angular force spun it, jumped the curb and came to a stop facing the other way.

I still can't figure out how that smashed-up car wound up facing the wrong way! It's crazy!

I think the light timing might be off. When I'm trying to pick up Cambridge St from off Storrow East, I often see cars blowing through the box even after I get my green.

Of course, that might be Massholiness coming from the other direction. It doesn't help that entitled pricks jaywalk against the light and double park in front of CVS either.

I really feel bad for you, man. It must suck having to be so... so AWARE of the TRUTH, and being the only person who knows how to properly live... and to be surrounded by "entitled pricks" and people who are just so stupid! And you're so smart! You're the one true observer in this sea of ignorance.

I'm just glad you're putting your intelligence to good use, bettering mankind by reading trivia questions to drunk people in bars.

Perhaps you need to spend less time in bars yourself? Will had a calm, rational observation and you went all nutty on him. Clearly this is personal for you. Did he resist your advances or something?

There's always at least one person who runs the light from storrow East every morning, and often 2 or 3. I'm hyper vigilant about it because if I go on green, I'm likely to be creamed, but yet people behind me are trying to slip around me to turn right.

My "favorite" misbehavior is an elderly woman who regularly at 8:15 stands at on the middle island between Charles and the T station to hail a cab. No matter what cycle of the light, a cab stopping there is going to block someone, and exacerbate the cluster F*%k. No reason she couldn't just hail it in front of the CVS where there's a parking lane...

People jaywalk against the light because the two halves are the intersection are not timed together. If you cross properly, you have to cross the first half of the road and wait on the center island for the entire length of the intersection cycle. If you do it entirely legally, it legitimately takes 5 minutes to cross in that crosswalk.

It's just one of a number of things they made worse when they finished reworking that intersection a couple of years ago.
