So how do you pick up a crane that's fallen over?

You get a bigger crane - in this case, to right a crane that tipped over on the BU Bridge.

Inspectors swarmed the bridge today to make sure it was OK after the accident, which did not, at least, block traffic, at least, until the big crane arrived (and what would happen if it tipped over?). State Police are still investigating how the crane got tipsy.

So at the end of last winter it seemed as if the BU bridge renovation was finally finished. Nothing was blocking the lanes, the sidewalks were mostly happy, and the bridge looked as good as I ever saw it. All that remained was two big heater/blower machines on the West sidewalk and these seemed like they were turned off anyway. The project appeared to be finished on schedule.

But then the construction crews came back! They put up a scaffolding over the West side of the bridge and resumed blocked the bike lane and the entire sidewalk. Often they block part or all of a traffic lane as well.

Does anyone know what they are doing, why it is taking so long, and how long it plans to continue?

http://transportation.blog.state.ma.us/blog/2011/1... has a moderator post from the beginning of July which says,

"Final painting work is still ongoing, resulting in some lane restrictions. This work should be completed in July."

When cranes fall over
And you can't right 'em
There's bigger cranes
Ad infinitum.
