I put a Bravo over on Mike's site but wanted to add an alert here.
When I was researching boot scrapers for my "Attention to Detail" architectural columns, I learned that many stand alone boot scrapers have fallen victim to snow shovels. The ones built into stair rails are the most likely to survive.
So if you have one, mark it or warn your snow shovelers to treat it gently. Sand instead of salt will also keep them from being damaged.
