What's wrong with the Blue Line today? Why, er ...

UPDATE, 5:30 a.m.: The MBTA says repairs were completed overnight, regular service resuming.

Something about Blue Line trains just hates those overhead wires. Mike Miccoli, though, doesn't mind:

Oh sweet! The MBTA is providing free shuttle buses! During rush hour! Those guys are the best!

Yeah, they pull buses from the most frequent routes when they need to do an emergency shuttle.

I've been stuck in a mess like this two years ago. If there's a problem with the wires, they could use third rail to Airport at least. There's even a crossover to use between Maverick and Airport for turning trains.

Unless, of course, the wire problem is at Airport itself, I suppose. But even then, there's the other track...

The wire problem was at Airport, wire crew at the crossover, dead train on the platform. Even if they could run signle track from Maverick to Airport, that would mean a train only every 15 minute or so. They had five trains running Maverick-Bowdoin and they were able to maintain close to a normal headway in that segment.

Now a wire is down at Revere Beach and people are trapped in a train waiting for the fire department to arrive.

don't the blue line trains have third rail running next to the track, even where there are wires overhead?

And if the wire fell down, you couldn't run there anyway.

The third rail ends where the wire begins.
