Whopper of an idea in Roslindale: Burger King wants to stay open 24 hours

Can the City that Always Sleeps deal with burgers at 4 a.m.?Can the City that Always Sleeps deal with burgers at 4 a.m.?

The owners of the Burger King at 4594 Washington St. in Roslindale go before the Boston Licensing Board next week with a request to stay open 24 hours a day.

The burger place is currently licensed for operation between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. It sits in the council district represented by Rob Consalvo, who has long resisted attempts to make his part of Boston less sleepy.

The licensing-board hearing begins at 10 a.m. in the board's eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

NOTE: Wicked Local Roslindale reports an owner told resident he would not seek to open 24 hours a day based on their objections. It's possible he could show up next week and withdraw the request for 24-hour service.

They should hold the meeting at 10 pm, so the people who would most benefit from the later hours would be awake.

If it's important for someone to get an overnight whopper then he/she should make the appropriate arrangements... whether it be to adjust their sleep schedule or work schedule. All of us have to rearrange work and other schedules to make it to appointments that are scheduled beyond our control and at times inconvenient to our current obligations.

It must be awesome in your enclosed bubble.

I work 2:30-11pm.

My "lunch" is at 7pm. I am hungry when I get out at 11:30pm. So I should tell my boss I quit because in your fantasy land I should only work a job that lets me have dinner at 6pm?

,,, the comment you are taking issue with was intended to be snark.

all of the robbers in Roslindale are excited to have a place to get fries, then empty the safe.

because is a open all night place really going to be holding lots of cash for said robbers?

Better to knock of a dunks or gas station.

A representative from Burger King promised the community that he would no longer pursue 24-hours at this location after a community meeting about it a few weeks ago.

I guess his word was as shitty as the food.

(full disclosure - I was at that meeting and can confirm that Doug Whyte did, in fact, promise to not go forward)

As part of the application process for something like this, applicants have to meet with community groups - the board may not always side with the community groups (see Allston), but they won't take any action on a request with these meetings.

So it's possible Burger King applied for 24 hours - and once they do that, all sort of notices go out - held its required meeting, learned what neighbors thought, and will show up next week and say, oops, never mind.

A world class city would allow their Burger Kings to open 24 hours a day.

I mean this with a great deal of love for Boston, but it's never going to be the "world class" city that it pretends to be without more 24-hour activity. But then, maybe Roslindale isn't place to start all that. And maybe the good citizenry of Boston isn't all about 24/7--despite what the politicians and planners say.

At any rate, if you're not a cop, anyone at a BK at 3:30am is up to (or was up to, is about to be up to) no good.

Pretty sure NYC has the largest density of McDonalds in the world too. There's over 100 on Manhattan alone. Per Capita? not sure who holds that record.

in a city with no Michelin star restaurants. A world class city would have better cuisine than can be found here. There are gems, to be sure, but even my favorites like Craigie, Bistro du Midi, Menton, Russell House and Eastern Standard don't hold a candle to what can be found elsewhere.
