The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can place and date this photo. See it larger.
near mission hill?
Corner of Huntington and Wigglesworth
Not sure about the year.
This is looking outbound on Huntington Ave. at the intersection of Wigglesworth st (oops edit.. Worthington st). There is a new building on the site of the Texaco, it's the "College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences". In the background, on the left you can see an outcropping of Roxbury Conglomerate, the beginnings of Mission Hill. Skipton Kennel Shop is now 'Il Mondo Pizzeria'.
That's a great photo, I'm going to have to spend some time looking at the archive.
It's Huntington Avenue at Worthington Street - right near where I work!
Billboard in the back says Mulhern for Congress - looks like that was 1960 unless he ran again (Curtis was a - wait for it - Republican - my how times have changed).
Based on the billboard and the woman and man wearing light sweaters/jackets -probably October 1960.
My only guess was somewhere around Mission Hill - only place I could think of with a cliff like that (back left of photo) in one of the denser areas of Boston. Nice spot Allstonian.
I think that's about a 1955 Chevy (?) Bel Air (??) in the Texaco lot but the cars on the corner near Huntington look a little bit later - including perhaps a Lincoln right on the corner - first guess was a Caddy - but it looks like it might have a kit on the back.
I would be remiss if I couldn't target this corner. The triangle where the Texaco is in the photo above is now a Mass College of Pharmacy building.
Street view is before the building was built.
Old timers had told me that there was an Arby's on that little triangle at one point.
The Brigham Wash in the background is the Squealing Pig and the cornershop is now Il Mondo Pizza (someone had told me that had been a pet store).
I would say it is the 50's based on the cars.
I like how you can see the Pig in that 'street view' and if you move to the other side of Huntington, you can see the new pharmacy building.
Also, my neighbor used to shop at Skipton's when it was there. She still gets deliveries of pet food from their new location.
I'm guessing 1956
HUNINGTON AVE FACING TREMONT ST AND MISSION HILL
JUST BEFORE BRIGHAM CIRCLE.LOOKS LIKE LATE 1950'S
I THINK THE TEXACO MIGHT HAVE BECOME AN ARBYS ROAST BEEF.
I WAS AROUND THERE IN THE LATE 60'S
If I recall correctly, that Arby's was the site of a horrible murder, an employee (or employees?) killed late at night or early in the morning. The Arby's closed right after that and never reopened; the building sat vacant for years. I'm thinking maybe late 1970s or early '80s.
An employee on a late night shift was set on fire and killed. Arby's never reopened as I recall. I still think of that poor kid any time I go by there, which is not often.
Based on the Mulhern for Congress billboard a little past Brigham Circle, this photo is from a little before 1960
As stated, this is now the site of the Griffin Academic Center. The beginning of the vid has great vintage shots from when it was a Mobil station and then a parking lot.
I remember the day that building was dedicated! The glass doors were so clear and shiny people kept walking into them and they had to put up emergency tape. Now they have some nice eye-level frosting.
That area of Mission Hill has suffered enormous change during the past decades
Here's an image circa 1958-1964 showing the area then and a Google Map image today. Not exactly where the gas station was, but you can see it in the middle.
Check out the archBoston.org forum for information on its transformation from the 1940's to today.

Just type in Wigglesworth in the Search box and you should get some good results.
my favorite pet supply store AND they would deliver a 25 lb bag of cat litter right to my door! Never realized they were in the Mission/Longwood area-- I always went to the store on Mass Ave. Great photo. I love the old gas station!
At least one customer on the Hill gets her pet food from them. I see their van occasionally.

Yes. A lot of the signage there is for Boston Red Dog.
