good bagel place?
I'd be there almost every weekend. right now I drive out to rosenfeld's in newton whenever I get a chance (usually once every other month), but if there was something just as good in the square... with lox... and cream cheese options... definitely would get my business.
Coffee shop
The space at former select cafe won't be available until next March or April. The carpenter who is remodeling the space said they don't want any more food items there because of how the place looked after the former owners left. I need to find out who makes the decision for the use of the property.
The current owner is not well, and he has a power of attorney. Hopefully TheMain St. Program Can find out a contact person.

espresso free zone?
I sympathize with the bagel lust, but at the moment, Roslindale has three bakeries, one of which - Fornax - has destination-quality bread. On the other hand, Roslindale might be the only gentrified or gentrifying neighborhood in the USA with nowhere to get a latte. So while I get that ideally bagels are not the same thing as bread, a cafe that cares about coffee would be a much higher priority for me. And as a Ros commuter, it would drastically improve my mornings. Attitude aside, Select Cafe had a hell of a nerve to charge $2 for sub-7-11 quality coffee.

Jimmies is a nice addition to Rosi Square and Donna (and everyone else I've even been served by there) is a lovely person. Try the raspberry lime rickey!

What's say we get a petition campaign going with whoever has power of attorney? Just because the Select Cafe folks didn't care about sanitation doesn't mean another food vendor would be a problem.
Also, second the motion on ensuring it is high grade coffee to go with those bagels and the already delicious ice cream and crepes.

Just a quick update. So far, no telephone numbers for the people in charge of Belgrade ave.
I have asked Main St. Program for telephone, just given an email address of which nobody responds to.
No support, except from you, the local residents.
