Berklee student reunited with her flute

FluteThe flute.

Transit Police report they recovered the $4,000 flute a Berklee student left on a bench at Park Street and returned it to her.

No word on whether they found the guy spotted on surveillance video walking off with the flute. The MBTA instead reports:

The flute was turned over to the Transit Police Department by a person who wishes to remain anonymous.

Especially since I didn't even play an instrument.

Is that you don't talk about band camp. The second rule of band camp is that you don't talk about band camp.

I'm glad she got her flute back, my question though is HOW ON EARTH DO YOU FORGET A $4,000 INSTRUMENT ANYWHERE? How distracted can you possibly be to leave behind something which clearly means so much to her? I don't get it.

Dude, you asked this question before and didn't get an answer so you feel the need to ask again?

People get distracted and forget things. You've never misplaced something important, ever? Please.

Lucky! Happy for her. Who knows... maybe the guy who walked off with it returned it.

I was wondering what happened with this whole situation.

I bet if I lost a $500 guitar the MBTA would have told me to go F myself

I bet if I were lost and asked an MBTA worker for directions, they would tell me to go F myself

i have to defend the MBTA employees here-- they helped me when I (VERY STUPIDLY) left my purse on the orange line a few years ago.. Even had it brought back to DTX station for me. Shout out to MBTA employee Heidi-- yeah, I still remember her name. She was great.

Judging from your stellar attitude here IHB, I wouldn't blame them if they did.

I dropped my phone on an MBTA platform a while back; the station attendant, rather than just tossing it into some "Lost and Found" bin, took the time to scroll through my contacts list, call the number listed as "home", and leave a message telling me where the phone was.

That was after he scrolled through the pictures to see if you might have anything risqué in your phone.

is boil the mouthpiece and disinfect the spit valves.

There are no spit valves.

Also it's a big piece of metal. It's not going to harbor any diseases long-term. Boiling it will probably actually damage it.

has a spit valve.

I hope she finds a way to tie it to her person whenever she goes out from now on.

on the subway and commuter rail. Someone found both and turned them into a transit employee. In the case of the 500 bucks, a Boston public high school kid [!] turned the cash in, I waited for the train to do it's return trip and was handed the envelope with all the cash by a commuter rail conductor. I'm still amazed by this. Had no problem getting my lost phone back, either.

i lose things on a regular basis, but never my purse. i carried it every day for seven years, never left it anywhere, and then in november, i walked away from it on my way home from class.

i called and called and called the orange line lost and found to no avail. three weeks later i got a letter in the mail from the red line that read that they had some of my property and to come fetch it.

the letter arrived on a saturday, so the next morning, sunday, i headed down there to get whatever was left of the contents of my purse or maybe just my wallet, i had no idea. it was an adventure to say the least, the woman with the key was on vacation and had the key with her but they managed to weasel their way in there with something they refer to as "the handle" (which is an old curtain rod and cot hanger rigged together)through the drop box to trigger the locked door. door open they asked me to identify my things, and there was my bag. Contents intact, makeup bag, prescription sunnies, wallet with my 20 bucks in it. everything.

there's no computerized system, they still write down the incoming property in a ledger but they do try. so for that, i thank them.

also -- that room was packed to the gills with stuff and a filing cabinet held more phones, cameras, and wallets than i would have imagined. there was even a bicycle in there. things happen.

I'm so happy for her. It feels so horrible to lose something you can't replace.

In November I dropped my birthday check from my mom in the parking lot of Trader Joes, probably while I was fishing around in my purse for my keys. Before I even noticed it was gone, someone had taken it home, called my mother to let her know she'd found it, and put it in the mail for me.

The guy FOUND the flute. He didn't steal it. Thought it was unfair to accuse the guy of stealing and post his pic on line when in fact he found it. He should get a reward.
