Citizen complaint of the day: Brighton's just as good as West Roxbury
By adamg on Fri, 03/01/2013 - 9:51am
Brighton residents seem to feel particularly put upon by city government when compared to other neighborhoods. Recall the person who started a complaint about some street trash by pointing out that Brighton is not some slum like Allston. Today we have somebody kvetching about an ongoing litter problem on Leicester Street - and vowing to continue complaining until it's cleaned up:
Pretend this is West Roxbury and get it done.

why would anyone do that?
Why would anyone want to pretend that their neighborhood is West Roxbury? (ducks)
JUST KIDDING... I keeed I keeed.
I live in Roslindale...
And I don't email the city when there is litter on my street. I put my gardening gloves on and pick it up like a good citizen/neighbor. I don't want my neighborhood looking like a slum so I step up and take care of it.
The City ain't yo mamma. You cannot expect her to pick your socks up off the floor. Grow up and clean your street.
clean your street!!!!
i used to put on the gloves once a week or so myself because the students didnt care. beercans and misc trash everywhere. only way to make it clean was to do it myself. i drive thru there now and it looks like a thirdworld nation, or allston.
Why complain when you can @NotifyBoston?

What's the case that West Roxbury gets special treatment? Is there one to be made or is this just a case of resentment with no basis in fact?
Do people who live in West Roxbury fix the place up or does the city deliver more services there and that's what makes it nicer?
Perhaps, single homes and two families with yards get more TLC from residents than brick apartment buildings in an asphalt jungle. I imagine temporary apartment dwellers are less invested in their neighborhoods than homeowners but who knows.
Brighton has three families. Allston has all of the above.
I really don't know.
A bit more to Brighton than Comm. Ave.
You might want to drive around Oak Square sometime.
If it wasn't an "asphalt jungle"
Then assholes like you would be calling for it to be paved over so that you can drive fast and be guaranteed to park your big fancy cars. The neighborhood was paved over, roads widened, parking lots built -- and you still complain! It's never enough. Then after all that you whine about how much asphalt there is.
Oh, and plenty of people who live in apartment buildings and three family homes do care about their neighborhood.
Aw, rats!
Brighton is overrun with students and rats. I'm not relating one to the other but throughout the year we deal with new neighbors who aren't aware of the rat problem or the proper place and time to put their trash out. In my personal experience, once your new young neighbors are there long enough for you to feel comfortable approaching them, they are soon gone with new ones in the wings. I'm not bitching, it's just a reality here. We tend to put blame on the landlords and look to the City to hit them in the pocketbook with violations to improve the situation.
No no no, Brighton has
No no no, Brighton has bunnies and squirrils that turn into rats the second they cross the Allston line/Everett Street.

Ooh, that should be the new slogan for Allston: We're some slum!
Leicester Street
Leicester Street (pronounced Lester) starts at Washington Street in Brighton Center and ends in a dead end. There are a couple of small apartment buildings, but it is mostly one, two and three family homes. I suspect the trash is at the Brighton Center end.
People here do believe that West Roxbury gets special treatment.
