Citizen complaint of the day: Illegal roof pool in Brighton

Stop that pool!

A concerned citizen reports from Kilsyth Road in Brighton:

POOL ON ROOF. EXTREME HAZARD. COULD CAUSE PORCH TO COLLAPSE OR EVEN WORSE. IMMEDIATE DANGER TO TENANTS. POSSIBLE BUILDING CODE VIOLATION AS WELL.

Or even worse?

Also note the door to the balcony which lacks a proper guardrail around the perimeter. The site stair handrails are also non-compliant.

Guess the city doesn't care about safety or the ticket revenue from this obvious crap.

It IS a pool, but an empty one stuck out there to 1) ice beer for a party and 2)cause horrific pantybunching in a certain busybody neighbor

As long as no one tries to cannonball off the tip of the roof, the porch should be fine with the weight.
If 11 poeple were already on the porch/ roof would you be number 12?
The weight of 3-4 people(in the pool) and 200-230 gallons (6x10 inflateable pool 3/4 filled) equals roughly same weight as 10-12 poeple.

Now the blatant disregard of any type of railing on that porch is pretty rediculous, even if the pool wasn't up there. I hope ISD does more than just drain & remove the pool.

I really am surprised this doesn't happen more often, filling up pools on flat rooftops across the city. Maybe they are more discrete than this aquatic terrace over the front entry.

What size are the beams in the roof? How well is it attached to the wall? Was that roof designed to be a porch floor, as well? What's the condition of the wood? How many gallons in the pool? How many people could/would be out there at once? ISD is certainly not overstepping in ordering it down.

It's obviously a hockey rink, at least as long as the B's are still playing.

Appended to the complaint:

Isd inspector had owner remove pool and cited for removing a handrail

The Owner was not cited from removing a handrail because there was no handrail when the current tenant moved into the property.

In Soviet Russia pool jumps off of roof into person.

A concerned citizen needs to mind his own damn business. If they want to be stupid that's their business.
