Companies on the outs over In

LoopedIn vs. LinkedIn

PXT Payments, an Andover company that sells a mobile payment system called LoopedIn, is suing LinkedIn for the right to be left alone.

In a lawsuit filed yesterday in US District Court in Boston, LoopedIn said LinkedIn has been pestering it to change its name with almost the same fervor with which it fills user inboxes with "endorsements" and that it's finally had enough: It's asking a judge to declare that nobody would ever confuse a product aimed at turning phones into credit cards with a social network for people who wear suits to work.

Not only are the two companies' logos strikingly different, PXT says:

It is unlikely that a professional individual seeking to network with others within his or her profession would mistakenly engage PXT’s services or confuse its mark with that of LinkedIn’s mark, or somehow otherwise believe that PXT’s mobile application is provided by or somehow associated with LinkedIn.

I was hoping companies were leaving LinkedIn over the whole email snooping thing. I haven't paid much attention to it so I've no idea if it's a legit complaint or not, but even the *appearance* of impropriety these days should be enough to give someone pause.
