Downtown Crossing stabber sought; police say he was bothering passengers on a Red Line train

Man wanted for stabbing

Transit Police have released photos of the man they say ended an argument on a Red Line platform Wednesday night by stabbing two other men. Police say the stabber reached for his knife on the platform after accosting the victims and other passengers on a southbound Red Line train around 10 p.m.

Police say he's white or Hispanic, in his mid 20s, with a full beard and carrying a black back pack. His victims, one stabbed in the chest, one in the wrist, are expected to survive.

How about a white Hispanic male? For that matter he could be middle eastern. Are middle eastern north Africans and Persians considered white? Because most look white to me.

Very few types of white are consider to be "the right type of white" in this country. It wasn't so long ago when the Irish were "not white" despite often being of much fairer skin. As a white Hispanic mix myself, I refuse to identify on any paperwork that asks. Very rarely is there an option that allows me to choose both, it's either "white non-Hispanic" or "mix non-Hispanic." I may be wrong but it seems to me that much of the rest of the world sensibly declares people white based on skin color rather than on whether or not one's ancestors come from the "right" European countries.

A lot of people in the US don't understand that Hispanics can have European ancestry. I think the election of Pope Francis has many of them confused!

This is 2013.

The real reason is political. 'Ethnic' based politicians want to keep 'their people' on the plantation as long as possible, so they [said ethnic-based politician] can retain their power base for as long as possible. To do this, it's necessary to so-call radicalize and keep people on edge. This is the same reason why the government keeps tabs and statistics on each 'race' and 'ethnicity'. They were heavily lobbied by 'advocates' to do this. And of course in the private sector marketers do this to sell and products and services.

who gives a shit!

They are looking for a dirt-bag who stabbed two people on the Red line and all you care about is his "racial identity". All i care about is getting this scum locked up no matter if he's goddam purple.

I've seen this guy up close. I was on the Orange line platform southbound at Downtown Crossing around 11pm two weeks ago. Just minding my own business when this guy walked up about 8 feet away from me and stood clearly in my field of vision, just looking at me. Was attempting to look menacing or something, even bared his teeth for a split second. I didn't really pay any attention to him and he eventually left, but I definitely had a weird feeling I was about to be assaulted.

Governor Patrick wants us to pay more in taxes for the MBTA, yet all I keep hearing about are assaults on passengers and violence directed towards T employees. Never mind the late arrivals, trains stalled in tunnels or the reduced schedules. Here's an idea for Deval: improve service, increase security and get a hold on the violence. Then we can talk about spending more on these trains.

Did it ever occur to you that delayed trains, trains stuck in tunnels, increasing crime, and decreased in service might be connected to a lack of funding? Is it your contention that there is a pile of money over on Ashburton place that Rich Davey and Beverly Scott are rolling around in ala Scrooge McDuck, and not spending on trains and service?
