Yeah, but too bad for the woman in Malden and anyone else who's not in a position to fight back like this guy was. I'm sure there are all plenty of RKO/Herald/Fox News fans ready to assault anyone who looks "Muslim" (or Sikh, or, you know, whatever) and who won't all be as pathetically drunk as these douchebags.

I read UHub daily and am finding this facination with the Boston Herald and WRKO people annoying. Way to blanket sterotype people. I love Howie Carr, especially when he's talking Boston politics. No one knows the history and the who's who in Boston pols like Carr. Don't read the Herald so I am not sure what that is about. But, to me it seems the common theme here lately is EVERYONE that reads the Herald and listen to WRKO (according to some) are less deserving?

Really, this comment :"I'm sure there are all plenty of RKO/Herald/Fox News fans ready to assault anyone who looks "Muslim" is like fighting ignorance with ignorance. Do you guys really believe this? I guess the Heraldl/WRKO/FOX (always) is just the latest meme...

lame.

I could care less about the Herald. It's always been a NY Post wannabe with less imaginative headlines.

WRKO, on the other hand, is a cesspool of racism, religious intolerance and anti-homosexual vitriol. It's not surprising that there is Muslim bashing going on in this state the way Jeff Kuhner and Howie Carr rile up the knuckle draggers to hate on anyone who is not white and isn't a member of "real" religions.

And spare me that nonsense about what or who Howie knows. So he knows a couple of low level staffers at the State House that feed him gossip anytime he needs it. So what?

Over the years I've known plenty of wise guys who laugh at Howie Carr. I remember one in particular saying to me that they could tell Howie anything as long as it involved Howie Winter, the Bulgers or Steve Flemmi and he'd believe it. They actually used to get a kick out of telling Howie some bullshit wiseguy story and then later on seeing it in print. Of course, because who is going to fact check wise guys?

And you know, Howie draws on his years of experience dealing with wiseguys on the mean streets of Portland, Maine and Deerfield Academy, so you know he knows what he's talking about.

Because it's easier to rip on herald readers instead of posting something meaningful, I suppose? Kudos to the guy for (hopefully) parting those morons with their front teeth in a very educational manner, now will all the pseudo-intellectuals here try to understand that not everyone who doesn't agree with their views is a bigoted muslim-hating bible-thumping redneck?

I'm gay, and wish more guys who get jumped for being gay would fight back like this guy.

Now can we get back to trying to solve our unacceptably violent street crime problem in urban America? How many people get jumped and assaulted for $, their phone, whatever, in just Boston alone over the course of a weekend? A week? A month? A year? How many people get jumped and assaulted because their attackers don't like their victims looks, the clothes they're wearing, the way they talk, the neighborhood they're perceived to be from, because they're white, because they're Asian, because they're homeless, because they're Salvadoran immigrants [a Salvadoran friend of mine has been jumped by gangs of fellow Central Americans in East Boston and Chelsea 3 times over the past year, each time they beat the snot out of him and robbed him coming home from work], etc.? Answer: FAR MORE common than some people naively think. Most of the time it's not even reported to police, so police statistics won't show it.

Nigh-time on a weekend in the city. People drunk and/or high on whatever cause trouble.

Seems that the Boston Police thought so much of this alleged incident that they neglected to post it on their BPDNews blog. We're told by the Globe that a "Muslim advocacy group" and "police" say the incident happened (i.e. was reported), but no names of a police spokesman nor any indication whether police are even investigating what, if true, would be a serious felony assault and battery and violation of civil rights. The vicitm, apparently none the worse for wear, either finds the Globe or they find him and he's able to give a boastful interview complete with a self-described by onlookers round of applause for his actions.

There's plenty they don't post - especially now, when they've dramatically cut back on crime news in favor of Boston Marathon-related stuff (I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but the fact that something doesn't show up on their blog hardly means it didn't happen).

"But I also want to make clear that – just as we will pursue relentlessly anyone who would target our people or attempt to terrorize our cities – the Justice Department is firmly committed to protecting innocent people against misguided acts of retaliation." -- Attorney General Eric Holder

Fear not Adam, I don't rely on BPDNews for all of my reporting. At my own peril, I do rely on the words of the U.S. Attorney General. So despite Holder's comments and similar comments from the Governor, we're supposed to believe that an Algerian-American was attacked, called a terrorist and forced to fight his way to safety and BPD and the FBI can't even cobble together a press release or a physical description of the suspects? A "Muslim advocacy group" and an "Algerian-American" advocating for himself have to bring the story to the Globe, or so it appears. If you believe this story as it appears in the Globe, I have some swampland in Florida at a good price for you. Farce.

Right.

You probably don't think there are any rapes or attempted rapes that go unreported, either.

Or that undocumented immigrants (or even documented ones) aren't targets of crime due to their fear of contact with law enforcement.

Okay.

He didn't say anything about that clown Samir Shabazz calling for genocide, why would he get involved with this? Two drunk idiots acted like idiots and got the asses handed to them, end of story.

"Boston police spokeswoman Cheryl Fiandaca said the Newbury Street assault is being handled by its civil rights unit, which investigates potential hate crimes.

The Suffolk district attorney’s office said it has assigned a senior prosecutor to work with Boston police on any potential charges, but has not seen a pattern of similar crimes in the area.

“Even one [attack] is too many, but, fortunately, we have not seen a great deal of similar assaults in Boston,” said Jake Wark, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.

The US attorney’s office vowed to work with the FBI, Boston police, and the state attorney general’s office “to ensure the matter is fully investigated and prosecuted, should the facts demonstrate a hate crime.

According to a redacted copy of the police report, police responded to a radio call about 10 p.m. Saturday about a fight at the intersection of Newbury Street and Gloucester Street, where the Cafeteria Boston restaurant is located."
