Finally, an answer to that vexing question: What the hell's a buckeye?

Turns out the Arboretum has one - in fact, it's one of the first plants it ever got.

The Arboretum has somebody on its staff named Maggie Redfern? Next you'll be telling me that the Horticulture Director at the Garden in the Woods in Framingham is named Scott LaFleur. Oh, wait...

Buckeyes are useless, poisonous nuts which fairly accurately resemble the eyes of, well, bucks. "Buckeyes" are inhabitants of a state which is on the east, Appalachian, the northeast an original piece of iceberg calved Connecticut (the Western Reserve), bits and pieces of the 1812 war trophy lands to veterans (the NW Firelands), and across the southern third, the Zane Trace. Buckeye land was home to a large proportion of comedians (Bob Hope, Jonathan Winters, Dean Martin, Phyllis Diller, Paul Lynde, Drew Carey) and astronauts (John Glenn, Neil Armstrong). One can go from Yankee NE a la Cleveland, follow the highway to all corn all the time Columbus, and end up in the New South Cincinnati.

Ohio is a weird place, and Buckeyes fill the bill.

Oh - it doesn't have a state flag. Nosiree, it has a pennant.

Anon was also dead onto rights about the candy = them's the best Buckeyes.
