Five Logan workers now charged with 53 counts in taxi-bribery scheme

Five Logan Airport "cab starters" arrested in February were indicted yesterday by a Suffolk County grand jury for allegedly taking bribes from cabbies to move them up in the queue at the airport.

Each of the five were indicted on at least five counts of soliciting or accepting a bribe as a public employee and at least two counts of soliciting or accepting an unlawful gratuity as a public employee, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

One of the five, Vadim Mkrtychev of West Roxbury, was also charged with extortion, the DA's office says.

The DA's office says the grand jury probe into alleged bribery in the cab line continues and that additional indictments against either the current five or additional workers could result.

In addition to Mkrtychev, those indicted were: Kenneth Clement of Attleboro, Michael Garvey of Melrose, Vadim Mkrtychev of West Roxbury, James Mulrey of Canton and Donald Potts of Medford.

More details from the DA's office.
