Hyde Park couple still screwed even after state rules contractor blew up their house

WBZ reports on findings by state regulators that the contractor failed to even check with DigSafe before its workers hit a gas main during road work, which caused an explosion that leveled Michael Burns and Bob Houser's home in 2010. The company fought the state all the way and the couple is now planning to cut their losses and sell the still house-less land.

All these people want is to go HOME! They are truly victims here and its disgusting that the insurance companies won't just pay to replace the home and do all their fighting after they allow the homeowners to get their home back.

just plain sad. a loss for the neighborhood.

Plus three years' worth of hotel costs/rent and about another couple of hundred thousand for pain and suffering.
Amazing they've been able to keep up with the mortgage all this time. This was a frightening incident, and something of a disgrace as well. Never seemed like the city was much help to these folks.

.. this was allowed two blocks from where the Mayor lives.. Truly sad. There has got to be more that can be done here.

I remember that video, that speech he gave. That when the news and people are gone, it will go back to just being on their shoulders. Going by their debt built, time passed, and paltry fine, it was just left on their shoulders.

I hope they successfully sue the contractors, get paid for their property, debt, displacement costs, time lost, and some extra. But I doubt any of that will come soon, they fought the state for 2.5 years to draw it out. Reimbursement will have to come kicking and screaming.

Kick them. Hard.
