At Thinking Cup, I see students leaving purses, backpacks and laptops unattended while they get back in line for another coffee all the time. It's kind of amazing how clueless they are!
I just never did this. Ever.

I see lots of people do this. Admittedly, I used to often do this myself when I needed to use a restroom, until a friend had her wallet stolen.

A year or two ago, don't remember which coffee shop, but a complete stranger asked me to "watch" their laptop while they went to the restroom. Sure pal...but when I hit the head my entire backpack goes with me, laptop and all.

in the library and the GSU, in particular, since they were open to the public. A lot of students come from areas of the country where they don't have to worry about crime, and are baffled by the need to watch their things beause "why would anyone take my laptop?"

Though since laptops and tablets have gotten lighter, I've seen an increasing number of students carrying them under their arm like a notebook, no cover or sleeve whatsoever, down the street or on the T. Not smart.

How hard can it be? You could nail a good two dozen pieces of crap doing this. Round them all up and send them to Guantanamo to live.
