The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can figure out when and where this photo was taken. See it larger.

Yum, lamb tongue for 38 cents! The layout of the store reminds me of D'Agostino's in Arlington Heights, but that's obviously not in Boston :)

From the calendar on the wall. Leap year!

Well, I don't know where this was taken, but according to the clock on the wall, the when is about 3:15. Too bad the calendar isn't legible. The Pan Am map is from sometime after 1948 to before 1957, but might not have been current when the picture was taken. (A combination meat and ticket counter is quite innovative, though!)

Agreed with GeeJimmy that it is February 1956.

From the reflections in the lamps over the meat counter, behind the photographer is a large window with plenty of sunlight, presumably the street the market is on. To the left of the store is an alleyway. To the right is a line of 4 windows and another large window. The building has two floors.

I'm guessing this location is on a street corner, with no elevated trackage.

This is Laconia Grocery in the NY Streets area of the South End. We knew it was ca. 1955-1958, but didn't notice the calendar that puts it at Feb 1956. You beat the archivists today!
