I know I'm not alone in saying that, as much fun as I had back in the day at ManRay, I just don't see where it would fit into the local scene anymore. Most of the nights that were there have long since moved (Xmortis's winter formal is Friday, 13 Dec. at TT's, in case anyone cares), and the ones that didn't survive have been replaced by offerings run by the younger members of the community (e.g. Aether and Excess). Ceremony hasn't even moved in sixteen years, so they'd never ever want to move "back."
Meanwhile, I perpetually seem to need cat food, so a nearby-ish pet store wouldn't be a bad thing for me.
I remember when I was 16 and had a fake id. We went to Man Ray every Saturday night. Good times. Good times for a kid like me in 1984. I have some very fond memories of that place. It was the first place I ever got hit on by a woman. It was the first bar I ever got served at and it fit my The Cure/The Smiths ennui perfectly.
When I got older, in my 30s, I started learning about private clubs and private parties and went to them instead.
So, sadly, I must agree. I LOVE Man Ray as a concept and I feel terrible that it's gone but I'm not going to rise up and fight for its existence.
It might be charming for students to visit a club where their parents might have met or gone, but they probably wouldn't want to run into them there with dad looking tired like Alice Cooper in runny mascara dancing to The Cure with mom shirtless wearing a black bra, black skirt, purple lipstick, and black nail polish.
No Pet Shop Boys, but I did see PIG Face and Front 242 (until their gear broke) at Man Ray, and the Revolting Cocks around the corner at a short lived little bar I can't remember the name of at the moment. Dresden Dolls played Man Ray several times.
Being beaten out for space by a pet store is undignified, but the many childless people in the area have to spend their money on something, and there aren't other pet stores nearby. To afford current rents and 1 AM closing times, A new Man Ray would need to generate income during the daytime, not just at night like before. That works less well for Halloween outfits.

My friend Linda Lawrence used
My friend Linda Lawrence used to spin there back in the day, I enjoyed that club a lot when I was young and into wearing black all the time.
I remember Linda
I remember Linda playing in the Campus room Sat nights I believe. Good times. Good memories.
Cool jerk
He has been jerking the License Commission around for years. Non active licenses are suppose to be turned in 6 months after they become deactivated.
From ManRay
to StingRay. Yay pets!
Not even
A gothic pet store?
Not hearing a lot of grass-root support

Sadly, I agree about Man Ray's attraction

Oddly, the chances of hearing
Oddly, the chances of hearing the Pet Shop Boys there remain about the same.
Times have changed
