Oak Grove platform changes

As I was riding by Oak Grove (on the commuter rail) on my way home earlier, I noted a change. One side of the platform is now closed off, complete with fake walls to block whatever's going on from view of the passengers.

Anybody have an idea as to what they are doing, and why they need to reduce the station capacity by fifty percent (both passengers and trains)to do it?

it looked like they were replacing the metal edge of the platform

first we had months of having to take the bus after 9 pm from sullivan, and now only half a station. they built it thursday, but nowhere any info as to why.
they found out yesterday that by boarding it all off, they also locked themselves out of their little "office" on the platform. that was quite funny

Looks like the platform is undergoing reconstruction, lasting until September of this year.

they didn't bother to send out an alert.

Oh wait, we're talking about the MBTA. Never mind.

Thanks for the update.

Did you mean to send this as an email to the MBTA instead?

Thank you roadman, I had the same reaction yesterday when I got on at Oak Grove. Construction, absolutely no announcement beforehand. And John Keith, I did write to the T yesterday morning, no response.

Why is there no communication from the T about thses projects? There is sure to be delays on the Orange Line as there is only one track running into and out of the station. It would be nice to be aware of this.

I understand that projects have to be completed, but that end of the Orange Line has had more than its share of bussings on evenings and weekends in the 18 years I've been taking it.

I knew about this project months ago, but the MBTA has done *nothing* to publicize this. At all. And it's crippling because it causes trains to hold for "adjustment" as far away as Back Bay, if not further. Yesterday my train held at DTX, NS, Community, and Malden, where I transfered to commuter rail, so I'm sure it had to hold between Malden and Oak Grove as well. There was zero heads up.

They started some prelim work and basic repairs over the past few weeks. Late last week they closed off half the platform. And within a day they had the whole thing walled off.

I've watched MBTA workers rip up (and replace) tracks on the Green Line without publicizing anything at all.

They'll tweet about nonsense though. Go figure.
