Oh, the yarns people have told on this phone

Guerilla knitting shows up in the most unlikely places sometimes, such as on this old pay phone at old Stan Hatoff's gas station ("Stan says: Gas is gas!") on Washington Street in Forest Hills.

ugh, i hate that gas station
Every time the wind blows towards the athletic fields, the stench of gas is overwhelming.
Gas stations are supposed to
Gas stations are supposed to have a system that prevents vapors from escaping when you fill up.
The EPA has allowed states to lift this requirement, since newer cars prevent the escape of vapors when filling up. But Massachusetts still requires the system for stations that sell more than 10,000 gallons per month.
There's a sticker on gas pumps with the phone numbers to complain to if the system isn't working. Maybe you should give the Massachusetts number a call.

Aw, who stole the phone?
Original.
Similar?
Looks like a similar, but different one. Both Hatoff's.
It's the same
same phone - this was put up over a year ago. The phone and pompoms lasted about a month before someone ripped them off.... =)
Original one
Is crocheted. Nice!
Who knew there were any payphones left?
The sighting of a payphone is remarkable enough.
MBTA Stations and Payphones
MBTA stations have generally been a safehaven for all remaining payphones.
That's good to keep in mind
That's good to keep in mind the next time the government shuts down cell phones, like they did after the marathon bombing.
No they didn't

Faneuil Hall Marketplace
Faneuil Hall Marketplace actually has functioning payphones right in the middle of the sidewalks on each side. The tourists (foreign) actually use them too.
Saw a guy using one outside of Porter Square
It's such a rare sight these days that I actually noticed him doing it.
This is actually at the edge
This is actually at the edge of the Stonybrook neighborhood, not Forest Hills.
