The Bostonian Society reports so many tourists are either calling or asking on the Freedom Trail whether the Old State House is open, it's issued a formal statement that the building remains open:
The Old State House is maintained and operated for the public benefit by the non-profit, non-governmental Bostonian Society, relying on the support of generous individuals, businesses, and foundations. Since 2005, the Bostonian Society has raised over $3.4 million for the preservation and interpretation of the Old State House. Each year, it spends over $400,000 to maintain the building and to open it to the public.
Bad news for Revolution researchers, however: Because the society's research library is housed in a National Park Service, they're out of luck - that building stays closed until the government re-opens for business.
