Our crumbling infrastructure: Broad floods downtown

Broad flooding

Glub, glub

Gerrit Betz shows us what happens when a BWSC water main bursts, in this case at Broad and Milk.

Nancy Cremins gives us another view of the flooding:

They just spent TWO years rebuilding the infrastructure on Broad Street. I think it included the water mains as they redid they hydrants! They had not painted the lines on the street yet!

Someday sooner than you think, it will be like that everyday here. So keep building those office towers on the waterfront!

When is the W going to get the funding it deserves?

Looks like BWSC used the same pipe supplier as the MWRA.

. . .especially downtown, it gets a lot of notice. But, in fact, Boston has one of the lowest rates of water main breaks in the country. I must divulge that I used to do PR work for the BWSC, but their numbers, in terms of maintenance, meter reading, and their finances, are really astounding. It has been one of the best run governmental entities in the state for going on 20 years.
