Abandoned sailboat

Boston Harbor Beacon reports this apparently abandoned sailboat on Thompson Island yesterday looked suspiciously like the sailboat that sat abandoned on Carson Beach for months after Hurricane Sandy dislodged it from its moorings.

The Carson Beach sailboat had it's mast, halyard and everything else stripped clean.

doubtful that it's the same boat, the one on Carson Beach had the mast and anything else that could be scrapped removed by vandals. Also, I believe the Carson Beach boat had a broken keel, which most likely wouldn't allow it to float anymore, and probably destined it for a dumpster when it was removed.

I'm squinting as hard as I can....but I can't see anywhere in that photo where there is a big kid spinning a smaller one around by the back of his underwear.

That place is like the Bermuda Triangle for Boston sailboats. It's probably something to do with the winds or the currents. I remember 10-15 years ago when I lived over there that every time there was a bad Nor'easter there would be a sailboat or two in the bay.

Is it typical to have insurance for boats?

This sailboat has been in Thompson's cove since the end of August. The "Southie sailboat" is in the DCR lot in Port Norfolk. As far as insurance; yacht clubs and marinas require it, people who keep boats on a trailer at home, may not have insurance.
