Purple Shamrock to become Panera Bread

Adam Castiglioni posts the building permit to prove it. Good news for Government Center workers who don't want to make the long trek to the Panera Bread on the other side of City Hall.

First off, okay this is okay I guess. I kinda miss the McDonald's next door because it was too easy to grab something on my way home (via Haymarket Station)

Secondly, I wonder how many times the employees will tell people "No, this isn't Panera Cares, you have to pay that amount"

cybah, go down the street a bit , cut through the alley , and come out to Blackstone street ( Haymarket produce street ) and go to Haymarket pizza , good stuff , non- Faneuil Hall prices. Much better than Mickey D's...............

Like 2 feet away from where McFood used to be, and 100 times better!

and this is not an improvement.

Downtown Boston sure, but there is plenty of real flavor around the area if you choose to find it.

I guess on the plus side, it's not another bank branch. I just don't get why banks feel the need to spend so much money on branches when people use them less and less. Ask a 20-something how many times they've stepped foot inside a branch (usually just to open an account).

Just getting the brand visible - and they're one of the few types of businesses that can afford the location and square footage.

I get it, but wouldn't it be cheaper/easier to just throw up billboards, or spend that $ on other streams of advertising. Running a branch/hiring employees seems like a waste.

That's why, its a losing business venture. You have a tax write off for that.

you can just write it off!

Do you even know what a tax write off is?

Uh, no....

Seinfeld anyone?

And yes you can.

Are you an accountant or certified tax preparer?

uh, no.

Am I? why yes I am (although i seldom do it anymore)

cybah , if you are a numbers guy , you will really like Haymarket pizza, big slice , cheese , maybe $ 1.50 , toppings add .50 . And they sit not 5 feet away from the ovens, quite the operation. No head though, cant figure that, but o well , you cant always have egg in your beer.

I frequent a branch often for my company (large nationwide company.) Every time i go their is a long line of mostly non native English speakers.

Branches are necessary to make overnight cash deposits as well. I have to go every night, and pick up the deposit slip the next day.

This is just my experience, but perhaps some of the area businesses need use them.

My business has a BoA branch in the same building. We deposit some of our client payments manually to keep a paper trail for auditing and some other compliance purposes. One day we'll do it all digitally, but for now having a nearby branch is imperative.

Has anyone looked into which Bank owns the mortgage on the building?

Oh good, we can always use another nationwide chain restaurant.

Panera might be as ubiquitous as DDs and BoAs, but at least its not another shitty Irish Pub.

I get your point. Love it or hate it Irish pubs are part of history and that borders on Faneuil hall, one of the top tourist attractions in the country. Shamrock was pumping 20k min a month n meals tax

Panera Bread? It seems such a shame - I mean couldn't another bank have moved in, instead? Can't have too many banks...

Panera is the new Dunkin Donuts.

Unless they picked up a cheap lease on the second location and they're gong to operate both to see which location is more successful before closing one down.

Excepting that they don't shove their horrible color scheme and non-historic signage down everybody's eye sockets before anybody they have paid off tells them they suck.

Unless you love the Panera color scheme and sign, they do the same thing.
