So the typical jp resident is "vain and egotistical" but i wonder if any of them spent as much time dwelling on other people's dress and behavior as this guy. He needs to get over himself and just enjoy the music and rant great event.

Let's cite Conan Doyle's Holmss in A Scandal in Bohemia, "You see, but you do not observe." In fact, my photo and music coverage of this nice event, of which I have attended every year, has yet to appear in local media, save Adam's UH.

We need less chipper Pangloss in reportage. I'll do my part.

I read the linked article earlier but wasn't going to comment because I wasn't sure if your blog was actually an ironic schtick - ie pretentious self-absorbed blogger grumping about people being too pretentious and self-absorbed.

But since you're apparently writing in earnest, I'll point out that you spent nearly 700 words ranting about the crowd, and less than half of that on the musicians. And most of that was a simple listing of names and instruments.

I followed the link from the UH article hoping to learn something about the performances - but only came away with the knowledge that you have the same queasy uneasiness hanging out in a crowd of JPers as most people (myself sometimes included). Big whoop. That's not reportage - that's just blehging.

After 21 years living in JP, I admit to being bored by the influx of self-indulgent sorts. We moved there from downtown because of the diversity and openness, much like Central Square and where we used to live, Greenwich Village. These newer dominant culture types of Hyde Square and beyond own JP, but ho hum. If they want to act out, they'll have to accept being observed and occasionally snorted at and called out.

I was tired last evening, so I didn't really review the bands at length. Note that I also didn't note the mediocre to bad groups, like Jesse & The Hogg Brothers, and Coyote Kolb. Cut me a thin slice. Those whose pix I published were hot stuff and worth the links to their websites.

We were there for four of the seven hours and as we have been for each year the festival has run happy to enjoy the show. I didn't cover everyone. I didn't get into each performance (although I may in a day or two).

I get to various music festivals. This is a good one, but not a great one. There are good, fair and bad performers (few bad ones). Over the past four years though, the audience has degraded while the performers have maintained or improved. It's well worth the visit (remember that it's a free showcase of diverse groups). However, be aware that more than almost any other festival other than the likes of Burning Man, some of the audience think and act like they are part of the show.

Again, yawn.

Wah, I don't like the people who went to enjoy the free event in their neighborhood.

This is one of the most arrogant, miserable things I've ever read. How about a story on how thousands of people attended an amazing, free event, with tons of local musicians? No, let's just talk shit about people having fun in a park.

"A cynic is someone who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing" said, I believe, Oscar Wilde. Next year, if the crowd bothers you so much, do us all a favor and stay home.

What a nasty piece this was, and completely unnecessary. We love our neighborhood here in JP. We are a community, and we know it takes all kinds. It's why we live here, why we say hi to our neighbors walking our dogs, and why we love the JPMF--what better way to have a picnic and run into lots of great people?

I'm glad you moved out of JP. You don't deserve it.

Guess who was never invited to play hacky sack? The man that was cowardly by remaining anonymous and criticizing and posting pictures of others enjoying themselves is a wanker. He sounds like somebody that doesn't have any friends because he is such a jerk so he has to find fault with others because it can't possibly be his fault that people don't like him.

JP is great because of its diversity and tolerance towards others. It is sad that you can be judged by the type of hat that you or your children wear. I am glad that I have been alerted to the fact that there is a sexiness associated with playing hacky sack although it is at the same time terrifically silly. This guy seems sexually repressed if he is getting all worked up about some people doing acrobatics, women wearing Danskin tops and the sexiness of the hipster hacky sack players. His wife probably realizes what a huge mistake that she made and shut him down after the 3 kids.

To the anonymous bitter man who wrote the blog, you should take down the pictures of the spectators who you criticized. They were enjoying themselves and do not deserve to be objects of your scorn because you are so are unhappy and resent that others that are having fun. I think that it is time for you to leave JP,

To the organizers of the JP Music Festival, thank you for all of your hard work. It was a great day and everybody seemed to fun, well almost everybody. I look forward to the 4th Annual JP Music Fest.

I don't know, we were pretty psyched to win the "thematic drama queen/costume non-award" award. It's going on the Library mantel.

I'd be more than happy to print, frame and deliver a non-award to you. We thoroughly enjoyed your music and your drag.

No wonder the author doesn't get much publicity outside of UniversalHub... he lives up to his self-titled "Boston crank" name through the entirely cynical tone. It's like the guy you see at a party with a stick up his ass, constantly making judgements from the corner while everybody goes about their fun.
To the blogger: if you think it was "a quarter to a third" good, then why would you bother going to the "JP thingummy" by the time you were done and you knew had a tepid time? And if this weren't true, you weren't very convincing about it here. It wasn't worth writing an article about something you thought was lukewarm. It's a good thing you at least got the musician's names, or else this article doesn't serve any purpose but for your self-absorbed complaints about the gentrified neighborhood you think you live in. No video of any performances... just a tabloid of what they wore, not what was heard. Use your powers for good, not for complaining.

Poorly dressed women with boy hair cuts.

Really ruins the music if the rest of the audience isn't in their absolute Sunday-best, amirite?

This is the first year my husband and I were able to make it over and we had a lovely afternoon.
Our kids, 7, 5, and 3 totally enjoyed the make an instrument craft table (great idea) and the generous sharing of the hula hoops for the kids. We enjoyed spreading a blanket out, seeing neighbors and other families with fun music in the background. Thanks for making the event engaging for every age. not sure who the haters are, but you don't have to come next year then. We'll be back.

I could not care less about the outfits of the audience, but would have liked to hear more about the musicians. Who did you like? Who didn't you like? I didn't know there was a music festival in JP.

I did like hearing about the dragonflies.
