And they have great taste - the store is filled with cool stuff from local/regional artists. My wife and I have both done holiday/bday shopping there, and I wish I had the disposable income to give them even more business (Dan's metal prints, in particular, are pretty spectacular).

I know that other parts of the country have been hit harder than Boston during the last few years, but it's still frustrating that things haven't turned around fast enough for places like this.

That's a shame. I really wonder if Roslindale, or really any smaller neighborhood can really support this kind of small retail business. I hope it succeeds, but I assume Marla's will also suffer this fate. I tried to support Sarida along with Birch St. and the other place whenever I needed to buy gifts, but that's still only 3-4 times a year.

Anecdotally, I've heard complaints about the high rents charged for the Birch St. spaces, but the cheese and wine stores seems to be doing OK. Then again, selling food/drink is a much different business than selling clothes, jewelry, etc... like Sarida.
