School buses roll, but BPS warns parents to brace, just in case

Everything normal, but BPS still warns:

Unfortunately we do not have complete confidence that service will continue every day. Parents should continue to have alternate plans in place. We will send automated phone calls and update this website in the event of a service disruption.

At least they called at 8pm and not 6am this time.

Has Kirschbaum been fired with cause yet for leading an unauthorized work stoppage that screwed thousands for poor and middle class families across they city for his own benefit? It's not our fault that his union didn't get the results he wanted fast enough, yet we're made to suffer for his problems.

I manage projects/contracts for work. If I went to a client and told them that I couldn't make a delivery, because all my vendors refused to work with me anymore, then I suspect that I'd get blamed for bad management.

Looks like BART in San Francisco hired Veolia to negotiate with it's transit union in the Spring and that doesn't seem to have come off without disrupting peoples lives either.

Why is everyone only blaming the drivers for this? I've always felt that our drivers were really great guys and caring of our children. I don't know exactly what they are paid, but I guess it's probably less than what I would like to drive a huge bus full of kids through crowded city streets at rush hour.
It seems like Veolia has actually done no managing at all and that's how it came to this mess.

Everyone blames drivers, then some blame Veolia, but nobody ever blames the people writing the contracts at BPS? It's in Veolia's contract to supply the GPS data for where buses and drivers are. But the drivers are blaming Veolia for the GPS tracking -- that is their number one reason for protest.

I couldn't care less anyway. It's a bus full of children -- stop being assholes, because GPS on school buses shouldn't be controversial in the least.

FYI, they're also protesting for not getting breaks. They're on the road for two hours in the morning and two in the evening. And they want a break with kids on the bus?! Are you shitting me?! As a parent, I'd be outraged if the bus pulled over at Dunkies for 15 minutes before dropping off at the school.

I'll concede they could potentially be underpaid, but I don't even know their wages. It's probably nearly impossible to work a second full time (or even most part time opportunities) job as a school bus driver due to the schedule.

Disclaimer: I work under a completely different Veolia operation, and this is no way reflects my employer sentiments, nor is what the company has told us (because the company hasn't told us anything, because it's a whole separate operation).
