South Boston man arraigned in hospital bed on charges he aimed pellet gun at police

Kenneth Connolly, 53, had bail set at $750 at his arraignment in a hospital room at Boston Medical Center for an incident in South Boston that ended with him getting shot by a state trooper, a Boston police officer or possibly both, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

BPD officers and a state trooper responding to reports of a man shooting a gun on E. 8 St. Wednesday night found Connolly armed with what appeared to be a silver gun, the DA's office says. When the officers ordered him to drop it, he instead pointed it at them and they opened fire, sending him to the hospital with bad but not life-threatening injuries, the DA's office says. Police later recovered what turned out to be two pellet guns.

One police officer was taken to the hospital with a pellet injury, police say, but Connolly was charged only with assault with a dangerous weapon, not the more serious assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

South Boston District Court Judge Michael Bolden rejected requests from prosecutors for bail of $5,000 and that Connolly be required to meet a curfew and wear a GPS device.

Innocent, etc.
