Slow going on 93 in Quincy

With little else to do as she sat there, Karen photographed the speed signboard on 93 north in Quincy early this evening.

The delays, it seems, were caused by all the hubbub over a police standoff with a wanted man inside a house on Furnace Brook Parkway in Quincy.

The google traffic map showed red for 93 both directions between the "Rt. 128" loop ends.

No idea why - we took surface roads and got home about 20 minutes earlier.

I can't wait for things to melt enough to bike.

I guess you were out there with me and the other geezers before they painted in the bike lanes? Like, 30 years ago? Did I see you then? Back when you had to be careful when it was below-zero cold out that you didn't snap your levers off, because the materials were shit?

If not, shut the fuck up. With your 'tude, you'll be lucky to make it to half my age. Pbbbbthbbbbt! Children!

I've only ever seen them say the same thing, no matter the traffic conditions. Two other cars on the road? Total gridlock? "12 MILES 13 MINUTES"

The MassDOT traffic cam web page is just as bad. If it's dark out and the picture has daylight, or if there's no snowbanks in the picture, it's worse than useless. And of course the images have no timestamps.

QUINCY —
After police SWAT teams shut down a Quincy neighborhood for nearly a half-day on Thursday, a Quincy man was arrested in connection with a Dec. 15 Wellesley bank robbery.
Brian Kalil of Quincy is charged with unarmed robbery and larceny of more than $250. He will be arraigned on those charges in Dedham District Court.
Kalil is accused of robbing a TD Bank branch in Wellesley on Sunday. After authorities obtained an arrest warrant for him, Kalil was traced to his house.
Police said that they negotiated with Kalil for hours before finally getting him to come out. He was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
The incident closed down a Quincy neighborhood for hours as police tried to communicate with Kalil, causing rush-hour traffic to back up. The house is at 1045 Furnace Brook Parkway, at the Quarry Street intersection.
Tactical team members from the Norfolk County Anti-Crime Task Force and Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council used neighboring yards to surround the home, and a sniper could be seen stationed on a back porch. Several police dogs were also in the area, and the Norfolk and Plymouth County sheriff’s departments were on scene.
An officer could be heard calling “Brian, come out,” over a loud speaker around 3:30 p.m. Police tried to negotiate with Kalil over the speaker for much of the evening.
The Norfolk County sheriff’s department and Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council set up mobile command centers at Hall Place and Furnace Brook Parkway, and illuminated the streets with floodlights as the sun set Thursday night. Officers from as far away as Medway and Franklin were on scene

Traffic has been terrible on 93 and 128 in each direction in the afternoon all week. Looks like tons of people are getting out of work early this week so rush hour gets moved forward. My normally easy commute due to an early shift is brought down to stop and go hell unless I take back roads for 20+ miles due to this holiday cheer.
