Three pals of alleged Marathon bomber arrested

They're charged with taking stuff out of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's dorm room or lying to federal investigators, not anything directly related to the bombing itself, the Globe reports.

Two were those Kazakh nationals already being held on immigration charges.

Boston Police report: "Tthere is no threat to public safety."

...as the possible cause for these kids being connected to, aiding/abetting, or sheltering the younger brother after the attacks.
A Federal rep. spoke w NECN and said that even if simple stupidity was the reason, too bad, you were still part of a crime.

2 of the 3 were his college roomies.
Their friendship being mostly based on the fact that they all spoke Russian. And apparently they have been sitting in jail for over a week once authorities questioned them and discovered immigration violations.

The 3rd is a Cambridge resident.

First, if the quote below is true, their conduct doesn't exactly amount to "college stupidity." Second, being untruthful with federal investigators at any time is obstruction of justice (not to mention when they happen to be investigating a terrorist attack), which is a crime. Third, at least one of them has been detained by ICE because he is here illgally on an expired student visa, having ended his relationship with U.Mass Dartmouth. I am unclear whether this is also true of the other one. Any way you cut it, the feds have cause to detain them and this is more than just college kids up to silly tricks.

The affidavit says Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev agreed to get rid of the backpack after concluding from news reports that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was one of the bombers. A court appearance for the three is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

It is possible they had those things, being his friend, then freaked when they realized exactly what they had. Still, lying to investigators is a big no-no. Lawyer up, and cooperate for immunity.

Or they're just asshole and are getting what they deserve for trying to protect a murderous friend.

TPM via (AP) is reporting these bozo's removed a backpack with emptied out fireworks, then wern;t exactly truthful with the FEDs.

BOSTON (AP) — Three college friends of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev removed a backpack containing fireworks emptied of gunpowder from his dorm room at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth three days after the attack, according to charges filed Wednesday.

Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev are charged with conspiring to obstruct justice. A third man, Robel Phillipos, is charged with making false statements to federal investigators.

The affidavit says Tazhayakov and Kadyrbayev agreed to get rid of the backpack after concluding from news reports that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was one of the bombers. A court appearance for the three is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

IF these guys had some fireworks that had been stripped of powder, they may have some idea where the bombs were built.

That's one thing the investigators would really like to know.

"take anything" text from Jahar, and they grab the backpack with the fireworks and his laptop. Difficult to interpret that as anything but a deliberate attempt to destroy evidence. Even stupid college kids wouldn't take a backpack of empty fireworks.

There is more to this story. (But no need for CNN to continue it's occupation of Copley to tell it.)

that, upon receiving the "take anything" message, they went for the backpack simply figuring that had Jahar's most expensive stuff in it.

Then the saw the firework remnants, freaked, and pitched all the stuff in the landfill. That was their error, not the fact they took the backpack.

Now, if Jahar's text had said "take everything", you might have a theroy here.

Don't obstruct justice, kids.

It's good to see the follow-through on this case, but has any agency, BPD, Homeland Security, FBI, etc., acknowledged hiring Craft International Services for the marathon and in what capacity?

Does it matter? Do you run around and worry about ever security guard you see? Do you have to know the details of every bodyguard used by VIPs, athletes, ect?

Just asking questions.

I have no idea why legal private security is deemed "suspicious". You can be rest assured the FED and BPD knows, has seen the pictures, and moved on to more important things in the investigation, like catching the actual bombers and trying to track down exactly how this all played out.

So go fuck yourself anon, and you batty shit that you people peddle. Shame on you for trying to divert focus from the victims and the real incident. Lock yourself in you basement and stay there.

I believe you, and the previous two posters are missing the point. I also have little use for the unsubstantiated conspiracy theory of the day. The point here is a private security contractor has apparently been used for a public event with public funds and no agency is willing to acknowledge who hired them or why. Given the volume of manpower and expertise from within the government deployed, what is the policy rational for hiring an outside vendor-- btw, there may be one, but what is it?

They were someone’s private security.

What leads you to believe they were hired by the government when everyone involved has already confirmed they we not hired? Are you worried about what transportation was privately hired for the VIP's also?

While it might be interesting news, there's a huge problem of tone here anon. You (and the website) are implying something, so lets not act like you are not. And yes, that’s bullshit.

Your point is just not was well hidden as you'd like it to be. If you truly "have little use for the unsubstantiated conspiracy theory of the day" then why are you perpetuating it? Why are you linking to a website that salivates at the very idea of a government conspiracy in play here?

The poster below points out the most likely explanation, one you and your buddy at the insane website have not even mentioned: public figures and celebs run the Marathon every year. Many of them engage security to protect them. Another theory: the BAA might well have engaged them, and since they're still cooperating with state and federal law enforcement on the investigation they aren't going to send you a full, notarized copy of their security plan and they actually NEVER have to do that because they are not a government organization and their security plan is none of your goddamn business.

And consider this: if it was such a huge secret and the government really did engage this firm for some eyes-only, top level clearance reason, why the hell are the elite super soldiers they hired wearing uniforms and standing together in an easily-identifiable group?

I've seen Homeland Security Agents wear tactical gear just like those guys in the photos. I don't see any reason why the government would hire a private security firm when they have hundreds of their own agents already on the payroll.

The first thing I thought when I saw the photos of those guys is that they were homeland security agents.
