Try the local brie: Norwegians love Massachusetts

Might want to plug in the ear buds at work - there are a couple of, um, explicit lyrics towards the end of this song by Ylvis.
Of course, this being Nitpicking Central, see how many mistakes you can find (like the pronunciation of "Haverhill" and our supposed city hall).

Those damn dirty scandis
Those damn dirty scandis should stick to providing us with beautiful women, herring, and cheap particleboard furniture. Leave the music to the British!
British
Not the Australians.
Massocheichei
I can't believe this place is real.
"Nitpicking ...
...Hub", you mean.
The Old State House is not
The Old State House is not City Hall. Although, I guess it might as well be.
Well..
That's the joke. They're Norwegian, and they're poking fun at foreigners who misidentify city landmarks. Like if someone went to NYC, pointed at the Chrysler Building and said "Look, the Empire State Building!"
I love this so much
I think this video is masterful. They very well could have picked Kentucky or Arizona but went with Massachusetts. I may be way off here but I figure the "gay" angle isn't due to MA's leadership on it but simply b/c they wanted to be absurd.
Where in God's name is
Where in God's name is Pingryville?
Ask the fox
The fox knows.
(actually, I know, too. I've biked through it ... it is a village in Littleton between Littleton and Ayer)
According to google maps, it
According to google maps, it is inbetween Littleton and Ayer on 2A. I think it's not far from Little Pwagmattasquarmsettport.
Better question
How do I get on their awesome dance team?
Drugs
They must be on drugs. seriously. Its drugs I tell ya... (maybe Molly?)
This is awful.. just awful and totally cheesemo.
Novelty song
These novelty songs wear thin very fast. I couldn't even get to the end of it. I fear however, that some will take this seriously and it will become a mainstay like other corny songs played at Fenway and elsewhere. How long until this turns up in a TV commercial for something here?
Don't think a lot of people understand the point of this song...
It's a bit unfortunate that people see this video after being introduced to Ylvis through the Fox, which first of all is PG, secondly does not require much of an explanation/back story.
This song (which was created before the fox was released btw) is a segment for their talk-show. They start by saying that it is good to have a place to get away, "just the guys", where they can "de-stress". Then obviously the joke is that they are secretly gay when they get away from the family. This is quite normal humor in Norway, which is very liberal on social issues, and not a slam against gay people in the least. It is not a slam against that state or the US either. Ylvis do not do mean-spirited humor..
Then, in terms of mis-pronunciations and mis-identification of landmarks etc, this is the gag about "stupid Norwegians that are not used to traveling, and sometimes misunderstand things.
Just the right level of wrong.
The song shows they clearly know about the Allston roommate scene. So everything else has to be a pretty carefully measured level of oh-so-wrong for the gag value.
