Brother at center of arrest fracas denies attacking cops

The Herald reports on yesterday's arraignment of Woobenson and Lorcen Morisset for an alleged seven-on-two attack on police trying to arrest Woobenson; his lawyer says he's 5'3" and has no bruises on his hands; his brother says he was trying to video the arrest and police took it and he never attacked them.

Yesterday, it was national news that two BPD officers, while making an arrest, were attacked by about 7 kids, ages approx. 18 to 12, and injured and taken to the hospital. I was proud of the officers for handling it without drawing their firearms. I thought they must have been worried about maintaining control of the situation *and* their weapons. I wondered, how did they do it 2 on 7?

Now this.

If there is a video, will anyone ever see it? What happened?

If only there was a way to have a video record of police interactions with the public say during arrests or all interactions. I know it's not
a solution for all of the challenges but it would take the he-said she-said out of this, and many, court cases.

Yesterday, Commish Evans, who I like, and the Mayor, who I also like, held a press conference and cautioned protestors who are going to have a die-in at 5:30 today in Copley Sq not to break the law. I thought protestors deserve credit for when they scheduled it. Evans was worried about it being a family event. I think kids should see it and ask questions. I was disappointing to hear Evans blame the protests on outsiders. U know some of the people who protest. They live in Roxbury and Roslindale. I'd like to see Walsh and Evans make progress on an agenda that could address the concerns the protestors raise.

Are they claimed the two officers that ended up in the hospital beat themselves up? What is this?

It says one of the brothers wasn't involved in the assault and was arrested for just being there and recording the incident. Never said anything about the other six not fighting back.

Did you read it?

Of the accusations that cops were attacked, Lorcen Morriset said, “That is a lie. We didn’t touch them.”

Evans and the police report didn't disclose and downplayed that two professional police officers were beaten up by girls. He did say they would be injured, off the job (paid, no doubt) for a while.

I agree this case argues the need for police body cameras, unless police don't like recorded evidence. Amazing how fast the clan of Haitian immigrants learned to grab their smartphones, with two recording video.

1). You do realize your comment is totally sexist right?

2). One of the police officers was female also.

3). Ever try to fight 7 people?

Racist too! Nicely done.

Was there a factual error? A comparison to feral progeny from other countries?

I'm under the impression the police like the video recorded evidence just fine. One of the kids was capturing that kodak moment and the cops took that phone. If someone records a criminal event, cops can seize the phone as evidence. Or, insert your "2 cops victimized that poor innocent family and destroyed the evidence" conspiracy theory below.

You probably agreed with that idiot athletic director who decided a girl who was larger than the average boy couldn't play hockey because "she might get hurt".

I suppose if some feral teen girl kicked your teeth in it would suddenly be "oh, I'm old and it wasn't faaaairrrr" rather than "I got my ass kicked by a g-g-girl!".

"You probably agreed with that idiot athletic director who decided a girl who was larger than the average boy couldn't play hockey because "she might get hurt"."

Actually Swirl, that idiot athletic director is spot on. Girls have fragile hips. It's the exact reason why there is no checking allowed in women's hockey.

Per the Herald article:

"Prosecutors asked that Woobenson Morisset’s bail be revoked on his three open cases in Dorchester District Court, including one charging him with punching a cop in the face. Sarason set his bail at $500 and ordered him to remain on GPS monitoring."

So what does it take to get bail revoked, exactly?

19 years of age and a freshman in the BPS.

If you arrive from some complete hole of chaos and squalor, where you had no access to education even in your native language, it might be impossible to catch up to grade level.

What is the age limit for BPS by year, because that is pretty ridiculous. Why not just send him to a GED course designed for these type of situations rather than have an adult go through four years of school with children?

Putting 14 year olds and 19 year olds as "equals" in class sounds like a disaster waiting to happen, with the imbalance in age, power, and ability to consent to sexual activity.

I worked with BPS classes (my work had a community reciprocal agreement at the time, so we worked with the kids even though we were not BPS employees) where there were a good number of left-back kids, which leaves a decent sized age differential (2-3 years) between the kids on their first time through vs the kids on their third time through. What happens is the at-grade-age-kids end up impressed by the older kid, look up to him/her, and follow his/her lead. It's often a bad one (because disruptive kids are left back at higher rates than non-disruptive kids) and the teacher has to expend so much effort controlling the class that learning is severely impacted.

The judge ordered all the defendants to attend school. If the defendants believe they are innocent victims can they skip school and refuse to take tests. Will their teachers lead a walk out with the rest of the school to protest a judge's harsh ruling ordering the victims to attend classes.

One Boston police officer took an elbow to the throat that left his vocal cords bleeding and a second officer, punched in the face, will require further treatment for her head and hand after an effort to serve a warrant turned into a brawl with a Dorchester family, police and prosecutors said.

I'd live to hear the story behind the name Woobenson.
Hope the cops are ok.
Hope the kids get off if their version pans out. Otherwise throw the book at em.

Back to Haiti where they belong if they are going to act like that. Who do they think they are to have the opportunity to come and/or live here and pull that crap. Go back to Haiti where you belong and if your a U.S. Citizen then act like one or go to Haiti and live there, you will fit right in.

Who do you think you are that you get to decide where other people belong?

If you're a U.S. Citizen then act like one... What does that even mean? Arm yourself and your family, look down on those with different beliefs, oppress natives, minorities, and women? Or do you mean work hard, send your kids to school, and provide for your family?

There's all types of Americans just like there's all types of Haitians and people of other nationalities. Some are law-abiding people and some are not, it has nothing to do with what country they're born in.
