Police: Turnpike driver was drunk when she plowed into a cruiser, flipping her car on its side
State Police report arresting a Worcester woman on OUI and other charges last night after she allegedly rammed a State Police cruiser on a detail on the Massachusetts Turnpike at the Brighton/Newton line, then wound up on her side when her car partially flipped over.
Ann Lyn King, 45, was headed west when she struck Trooper Mark Lombardi's marked SUV around 10:30 p.m. He was there to protect a maintenance crew performing inspections of light poles along the highway.
Lombardi was treated at Boston Medical Center for minor injuries and released.
In addition to OUI, King faces charges of negligent operation, negligent operation in a construction zone and failure to obey a traffic sign. She's scheduled for arraignment today in Brighton District Court.
Innocent, etc.

yet more proof we must tax, license, and insure cyclists!
DAMN CYCLISTS! Look at the mayhem they cause, even on roads they're not allowed on!
Right!
Because every cyclist obeys every law levied against moving vehicles. Just like that bike messenger who ran a red light at Boylston & Clarendon on my way into the office this morning.
Ok

Whats your point?
His point is obviously that
His point is obviously that when cyclists ignore the law, it results in accidents, property damage, loss of life and huge traffic backups.
Well, Yeah
Cyclist runs a light and gets hit by a car. That's an accident. His/her bike (ie, property) gets damaged and his/her life may even be lost. The street gets shut down for accident reconstruction, leading to huge traffic backups, though that is obviously the least serious effect. So, I guess, yeah, thanks for helping to make this point.
It's the city...
Take the train if you want to avoid back ups.
Yeah...
...like you never roll through stop signs or gun it through an intersection to make the light.
I'm sure she'll be back on
I'm sure she'll be back on the road in no time. After all, people NEED to drive, right? And hey, I saw a cyclist run a red light!
Need better laws...
Something like... Attempted vehicular homicide.
I love the rationale here, it
I love the rationale here, it's ok for bikes to break the law as long as it's not significant by some arbitrary measure that just so happens to be convenient for the anti-car people. Does that mean it's ok for me to smack around strangers? As long as I don't kill them, of course. I can always justify it by saying someone bigger did something worse some other time. Or does this logic only apply while riding bikes and road laws specifically? I even own and ride a bike in nicer weather.
And yes, the driver in the article above should have her license taken away. But the sarcastic "damn cyclists" comments that show up (and are first to instigate) have no real relevance here. Yet we're supposed to believe that those of us who respond to such irrational, off topic arguments and expect mutual respect on the road, that cyclists are not saints and are obligated to follow the same laws as cars are the real assholes here?
When the Police argue that we
When the Police argue that we need Police Cruises on Construction Details, so they can write tickets for bad drivers - was this what they were referring to?
