DA: Man can't keep his hands off illegal weapons

A man clutching his waist in a Dorchester liquor store last night was ordered held in lieu of $150,000 bail today after prosecutors said he was packing a loaded .357 gun.

It's the fourth arrest on illegal-weapons charges for Brandon Jesarum since 2001, when he was just a teenager, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

He was one of four men charged with illegal weapons possession in Dorchester and Roxbury over the past couple of days.

Steve Stephen, 32, had bail set at $100,000 in Dorchester District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm as a subsequent offense, unlawful possession of ammunition as a subsequent offense, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and being a Level III armed career criminal. He has a lengthy record of convictions for assault and battery and gun charges, the DA's office reports.

Daquan Dooley, 33, had bail set at $5,000 in Roxbury District Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm as a second offense, carrying a loaded firearm as a second offense, unlawful possession of ammunition as a subsequent offense, and possession with intent to distribute a class D drug, the DA's office says. He ws onvicted on firearm charges in 2008.

John Gomes, 29, had bail set at $2,000 in Roxbury District Court on charges of possession with intent to distribute a class B substance, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and cited for speeding and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, prosecutors say. He was also charged as a Level I career criminal based on a 2009 conviction for assault and battery.

Innocent, etc.

...and the best part is that all of these repeat low lifes (career felons) will be back out on the streets and in your neighborhood soon. Welcome to massachusetts, where our strict gun laws only apply to the law abiding citizens. Move along, nothing to see here.

I have a feeling you will get a good deal of bashing from all the bleeding heart regulars here, though the the thugs you mentioned definitely won't be causing any serious problems in their neighborhoods, aside from an occasional holdup that will be in the news for weeks and will result in residents demanding SWAT, FBI and the National Guard (Back Bay, Brookline, Cambridge, etc.) There will be plenty of shootings in dot/rox/'pan, but that's a small price we all have to pay for social justice and political correctness.

With all the energy you spend worrying about things you imagine might happen, but haven't at this time, and then complaining about what you've imagined, you could do something useful in the world.

All that kicking, screaming and pearl clutching over a few stick-ups around St Mary's area last year was just a product of our imagination. And there haven't been any shootings so far this year, it's all made up by the evil wingnuts trying to demonize the poor.

strawman?? Kelly, a record pace for murders so far this year, a 14 year old killing his poor little brother, these 4 scumbags this week (along with many others) - I don't need to imagine crime in Boston, it is going on right now - and by allowing these punks to have repeat gun charges, drug charges, and violent assault charges, the likelihood of myself or a family member being affected only go up. "things that might happen"? go tell that to the parents of Amy Lord - her punk killer had a rap sheet a mile long - but was somehow able to walk free and prey upon innocent Bostonians - Wake Up.

roztonian, my reply was to anon (not verified) on Wed, 02/12/2014 - 9:25am who predicted what the response to your comment was going to be and then decried the imaginary response.

First two sound reasonable given their records, but wtf is up with the other two?Judge Dougan strikes again?

Do we know the bail amount the prosecution recommended, and if the bail amount the judge issued was significantally lower than said recommendation?

And it should be written into law that (a) bail amounts should be based mainly on the crimes the suspect is charged with and (b) judges should not be allowed to reduce a prosecution's bail recommendation without giving a full justification on the public record for said reduction.

So why hasn't he served any of the mandatory minimums as a repeat offender?

The mandatory minimum as a first offender and state prison time as a repeat offender:
