Detective keeps man from committing suicide by train at Park Street

MBTA Transit PD Park St

Transit Police posted this video of quick action by Det. Sean Conway around 2:10 p.m. yesterday at Park Street:

The male was about to jump into the "pit" area when the quick acting detective was able to grab the male, practically in mid air, and prevent him from harming himself.

something we can blame this cop for?

I don't think he Mirandized the guy before taking him to the ground.

In all serious, though: hooray for the transit cop!

Nice grab...Sox should sign him. Seriously though, nice work by the officer.

Damn! Those were some really fast hands. I've got to believe that cop has not taken very many hits in his career.

A job very well done, indeed!

N.B. - it's also nice to see one of UHub's collective biggest pet peeves being laid out, too - that's a transit cop, in the subway (not in a cruiser) , in plainclothes. Let's hope there are more like this fellow.

Transit cop - Great. In the subway (instead of a cruiser) - Even better. In plainclothes instead of uniform - huge fail.

you make no sense roadman, I see plainclothes officers doing amazing shit downtown (where I live) that would not be possible in uniform.

Can't we have both plainclothes and uniformed officers on the trains and in the stations?

Plainclothes are great for catching people smart enough not to do bad stuff in front of a cop but aren't helpful when someone needs to find an officer right away.

I observed a plainclothes female transit cop materialize out of nowhere and pull aside a fare evader at Downtown Crossing a couple of months ago. They're out there.

3 or 4 mph?

And, what's your point? That the guy should have let him fall and see what would have happened?

Kudos to this guy for recognizing the situation and acting.

only the fast ones. that guy would have been fine getting hit by that slow train. (this is sarcasm in case you are a moron)

Speed x weight = momentum. Inertia is a property of matter.

BILL BILL BILL BILL! Bill Nye the Science Guy!

Red Line trains are big and heavy. There's an electrified 3rd rail. There's no gap between the train and the platform. There are lots of ways to get maimed by taking on a train, even at only 3-4 mph.

is whack.

No matter the speed, that officer just saved thousands of commuters ADDITIONAL delays on their commute. The Red Line doesn't need any assistance with delays.

Isn't that the third rail side too?

He might have been going for electrocution... Pretty horrible stuff. Had the officer waited a millisecond later it would have been a bad day for all around.

So much for undercover work.

...doesn't always mean "under cover".

Now all you folks who like to whine about how there are never any transit cops around can zip it.

One cop in one station on one day doesn't prove a trend.

Neither does no cops in one station on a day when you need one.

you could try jumping like this guy to test your theory. Actually, I would suggest you might want to try the same jumping act in each T station, just to get a good random sample.

Good Job saving a lost soul, MSP Trumps T-police heroics by spotting dummy in HOV lane justifying millions in details.
