Harvard student falls off Atlantic Avenue building

UPDATE, Monday morning: The Crimson reports the student died.

The Crimson reports a Harvard sophomore is in critical condition at Mass. General tonight after he fell from a building early Sunday.

The Crimson said Harvard and Cambridge police declined to say where he fell, except that it was not at Harvard or in Cambridge.

Brian D'Amico and Boston EMS Incidents report that around midnight, somebody fell from the seventh floor of a building in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue near the New England Aquarium - although he may not have fallen all the way to the ground.

That victim was taken away by paramedics in critical condition.

WBZ confirms it was the Harvard student and that it appears he jumped.

    Update from Brian

"WBZ sources confirm Harvard student Andrew Sun fell 7 stories from 240 Atlantic Ave in Boston around 12am, indications this was intentional."

Poor guy. Hope he pulls through. It strikes me as bizarre and unsettling that a student who lives on-campus tries to kill himself, and HUPD doesn't think it's worth investigating. In this case, it's not that student that needs the attention of the police.

This is commonly a time of year..

.. when stressed out kids in over priced credential mills are likely to jump off things.

Sad to say, back in the 70s, it was a 'sign of spring' out at U Mass Amherst.

It is often med school kids as the pressure is terrible.

This may be a reason T. S Eliot called April cruelty month.

It is as if the onrush and beauty of spring becomes overwhelming when you are under pressure or depressed.

There's the glowing world, the first hints of warmth and it all triggers despair when you don't think you are measuring up to whatever yardstick whacks you.

It is a good time to be alert to friends if they have these problems.

Is the building he fell from

Is the building he fell from somehow affiliated with Harvard, or a residential building? I think of those buildings as being commercial/office structures, so what was he doing over there at that time? Perhaps he was trying to ensure that his body wouldn't be found immediately?

Regardless, it's very sad. My condolences to his family and to his community at Harvard.

Im guessing it was the parking garage by the aquarium. Most of the buildings don't have windows that open the tops would be higher than 7 floors. Im not sure though.
