The tracks are between Jose's restaurant and their parking lot. If you're not familiar with the area, on a dark and rainy night, you could easily make the wrong turn.

Sounds like more DWHUA.

There are even gates in this screenshot to keep you from going down there! Don't people realize that you aren't supposed to drive down the tracks???

The gates (when down) keep cars off the tracks when a train is coming, by spanning the road. They don't ever go down over the tracks.

There are gates perpendicular to the tracks that would be in your path if you were to attempt to drive alongside them. One to the right of the tracks and one to the left.

This screen shot was taken in September. They were there when I crossed the tracks there on Thursday.

In any case, don't people realize that you don't drive over the top of railway tracks? Trolley lines don't have crossing gates.

Woman stopped at the traffic and crossing lights as required by law she did not drive on the tracks and was not attempting to turn. The parking lot is 500 yards away. She was unfortunately slammed into from behind by an SVU that failed to stop. This shoved the white car onto the tracks in front of the approaching train. Woman and child bailed just in time this could have been catastrophic

I think you have mistaken this with another incident...

The restaurant parking lot was just next door.

My friend used to live near that intersection and witnessed the same thing, someone drove their minivan onto the tracks and then bailed out before a train demolished it. Not sure exactly when it happened but it was in the last couple years.

The minivan incident was near the convenience store in Belmont, the other side of Fresh Pond.
