Fans organize benefit for owners of soon-to-be-shuttered Brighton blues restaurant

Supporters of Smoken' Joes in Brighton Center are planning a benefit in the House of Blues Foundation Room on Sept. 25 for Wendy and Joe Dodd, who are closing the place forever on Sept. 23 due to health issues and a rent dispute with their landlord. Heather Balchunas writes:

Smoken Joe's has not just been a music venue or restaurant. For many (like myself), it has been a labor of love. There have been many struggles to keep the doors open often using their retirement savings to keep the operation afloat. Frankly, the burden has been much too great for, owners Wendy and Joe. When the music community became aware of this, they were devastated and wanted a chance to thank Wendy and Joe for their efforts. Conrad Warre (from the band Bees Deluxe) has taken on the tremendous task of organizing a benefit to help the owners of Smoken Joe's with the financial strains that they will endure from the closing.
