Fenway Shaw's wants to add liquor to its inventory

Shaw's goes before the Zoning Board of Appeals on Feb. 11 seeking permission to add a liquor store to the grocery offerings at its store at Boylston and Kilmarnock streets.

If it succeeds with the zoning board, the chain would then have to win approval from the Boston Licensing Board to sell liquor.

The zoning hearing starts at 10:30 a.m. in the board's eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

That Shaw's is a dump. I doubt selling liquor will improve it.

Wegmens is going to open only a block away and will likely have Liquor with better prices selection. Hopefully they will be 24h too.

I assume their plan is when wegmens opens, Shaws will become a liquor store only.

I live a block from this Shaw's and shop there several times per week. First, it is not a dump. Second, I think it would be great. It would be competition for the one booze store in the area and ensure that Shaw's survives as competition for any other grocery stores that might open nearby.

Years ago there was a liquor store in there, I don't know why they got rid of it
