Framing a masterpiece in the Public Garden

Framed landscape in Boston's Public Garden

Today, there was exactly one tree in the Public Garden that had decided enough was enough and it was time to shed its leaves in a blaze of glory.

And that tree just happened to be within the frame that the Friends of the Public Garden has mounted on a pole for the convenience of strollers who want to compose their own landscape or outdoor portrait.

Looking through a frame at the tree wasn't the only way to enjoy the scene, though. A grandfather carefully browsed the collection of leaves on the ground under the tree looking for the brightest, juiciest ones, which he then handed to his granddaugher for her rapidly growing collection:

PAAM put up similar frames all over Provincetown, but with an adjacent vintage picture showing the framed view as it appeared 50, 100, 150 years ago.

I love how beautiful Boston gets in the fall. The recent rain has taken a lot of the gold and red leaves with it, so those last few trees are something special.
