For some reason, I was looking at the price of the Globe the other day. $1.25 in Boston, $2.00 further out, but $1.00 in those 2 counties in Florida. I feel like I'm being hosed. Of course, I get home delivery, so I am getting even more hosed, but still, why is it cheaper thousands of miles away?

At a guess, the Fort Myers edition is just the front section and sports, rather than the full Globe. Out of town editions of newspapers are usually missing several of the more localized sections. Aside from Sox coverage, why would the Florida market want much in the way of local stuff like restaurant reviews?

Less paper means less cost. Either that, or they got some sweetheart add buys from the Florida swampland and retirement industry.
