Flaming car turns 93 into Southeast Distressway

Car on fire on Southeast Expressway

Darryl Houston drove by a car on fire in the northbound HOV lane around 9 a.m.

Nobody was hurt, Houston reports.

The fire backed up traffic for miles, according to Adam Franklin, who photographed the fire from the other side.

The law says if you're in the "public way", it's a no-go. Doesn't matter if you're stopped or not.

Now, I haven't checked the law thoroughly, but I believe what you're referring to is in regards to texting only. Also, you can idle in the shoulder, part of the "public way", and send a text.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, as it would be useful to know. But really, the law as I understand it is quite limited.

It bans quite a bit more than texting. Virtually nothing except dialing the phone and answering is legal while you're the driver's seat of a vehicle on a public way.

"Also, you can idle in the shoulder, part of the "public way", and send a text."

You understand the law wrong, and it's not my job to help you google something.

And I think you're applying the under-18 law to all drivers.

Stopped on the Distressway because of a car fire.

Picking up the phone and snapping a photo takes two seconds.

Really?

Nothing else to say on this thread people. Nothing to see here. Move along....

Anyone else notice one of the photos only shows one person? Curious that a single-passenger vehicle was in the HOV.

The other person or people may have moved much further away.

I wonder if somebody just didn't get around to taking it back into the dealer 9 months ago? http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/2007-08-honda-fit-recalled-a-second-time...
