Large booms that will echo through downtown this afternoon will probably be harmless

Oh, hey, it's the first Monday in June, and you know what that means: Yes, the annual parade and cannon fusillade by our very own Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, following its annual change of command.

Spokesman Brian Kane reminds us the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company has been firing cannons on the Common on the first Monday of every June since 1638. This year, the Massachusetts Army National Guard will fire artillery as part of the ceremony, between 1 and 3 p.m.

Parts of Cambridge, State, Tremont and Boylston streets will be will be closed to vehicular traffic during the morning of Monday 02 June. This year, the parade will continue to Trinity Church in Copley Square where you'll be able to see pikemen and musketeers from London's Honourable Artillery Company demonstrate their skills (no, don't worry, not against our Ancients and Honorables - both sides have long since made up).
