Short circuit may have sparked large fire in East Boston

Large fire in East Boston

UPDATED, 12:20 p.m.

Boston firefighters raced to Webster and Sumner streets around 8:30 a.m. for a fire that fire officials say may have started with a short circuit at 309 Sumner and then spread to 102 Webster and 311 Sumner.

Jaime Hutkin reports a family with a baby got out safely. At 9:10 a.m., the Boston Fire Department reported 1 firefighter suffered a leg injury.

Fire officials say 20 people were displaced from 309 Sumner and 102 Webster. 311 Sumner was not as severely damaged.

Smoke could be seen from across the area. Joseph Couture photographed the fire from downtown:

Got an alert on my broadcastify alert app that there were over 1300 listeners for Boston fire so this was the first place I checked.

Thank goodness everyone is okay! I live about five houses away and slept right through it!

Anyone know if there's damage on the odd side of Webster? I have a friend almost directly across from 102.

I live down the block from there, and when I was leaving this morning it looked like the damage was mostly on the even side, between Webster and Sumner. People were saying the fire was down in one of the little alleys.
