Is Missouri Gov Jay Nixon's decision to call out the national guard appropriate?

Marc Morielo, President of the National Urban League on MSNBC, Monday August 18:

"I think it could have been avoided, and I think the militarization of the environment in Ferguson could have been avoided had the Ferguson police and the local prosecutor been transparent at the very beginning.

Why was this officer's name not revealed? Why was there no report on the incident? Why has in fact this officer not been arrested?

I think that the actions of the local police have escalated the situation to where it is today.

Now, we abhor violence, none of us in the civil rights movement support looting. The tradition of civil rights is a peaceful protest. We affirm people's right to peacefully protest. There should be a separation, notwithstanding the pictures people have seen, of the the fact there are are leaders and members of the community who are condemning the violence and looting that you see. However, people have a right... and the anger, the sense of outrage is understandable because the local authorities... I've never seen a situation more poorly handled than the local authorities have handled it in this instance."

Thursday night was the first night Capt. Ron Johnson of the Missouri Highway Patrol was in command of the police response in Ferguson. His plan was to de-escalate use of force. Evidence shows protesters, vandals and looters deescalated, too.

But on Friday, six days after the victim Mike Brown was shot and killed by a Ferguson police officer, the Fergusen Police Chief finally released the name of the officer who shot Mike Brown. He name was Darren Wilson. At the same time the Chief provoked the community by releasing a video of Mike Brown allegedly stealing cigars minutes before his death.

Five hours later the chief made a statement clarifying that Officer Darren Wilson did not stop Mike Brown because he was a suspect in the shoplifting case aka strong arm robbery, but because Officer Wilson had observed Michael Brown jaywalking.

Here are the front pages for the rest of the week.
