The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can place this photo. See it larger.

Taken from the top of Mission Church. Several of those houses towards the left are still standing on Alleghany St.

So I'm guessing you are right. But for fun I'll say that it's taken from the BC campus looking up at the Cardinal's residence/seminary across Comm Ave.

Looking over from Blessed Sacrament over the Hampden Brakes area? The cliffs seems for the Mission side.

I'm going to so what you did and guess differently. I say it's the parceling out of the Winship estate in Brighton center.

Nice call. I think that the white looking house that you can see the best is now red.

The exposed quarry stone is certainly in line with the exposed puddingstone between Pontiac, Alleghany St and Della Ave. The pointed roof and cross in the lower foreground are almost certainly the peak of the roof above the rose window and are now flanked by the twin spires. The view seems to pre-date the spires as is seen here: http://architecture.mit.edu/class/city/archive/projects03/mission_hill/t...
Shall I guess that the stone is being quarried to build the rest of the cathedral? 1890s?

Those houses being built? They're for the yuppies who are driving out the long time local residents.

I don't think there is enough parking.

The BRA knows everybody rides bikes and skateboards now, just like in New Delhi.

What about the bike lanes?

I would like to be in one of those lone houses [at the time of the photo] atop the hill admiring the fine view, then a few months later going "WTF!" as new houses are built 3 feet from my windows.

As you subdivided and built on that land and made a killing!

I think the prominent house of the left might be 33 Alleghany. Can't get the Google link to post here, sorry.
