Ipswich Police report:
Marguerite Tomany, age 61, of North Grosvenor Dale, Conn., died as a result of injuries suffered in the lightning strike. The second victim, a 69-year-old woman from Concord, Mass. remains in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Both were in the water on Saturday when the first of three storms to hit Ipswich suddenly appeared, police say.

It's a nit-pick
But as someone who comes from near there, it's actually North Grosvenordale (two words, not three). It's been misprinted on the highway sign on 395 for about 20 years, so I'm not surprised that the Ipswich Police got it wrong.
RIP...
This breaks my heart. From what I am gathering, the ladies didn't have enough time to get out of the water due to the speed of the storm.
So sad.
And shocking, in one of the most beautiful places I can think of. I was there on Sunday--hadn't yet heard about this tragedy--and was shocked to see the extent of the storm damage on the town green and all the way down Argilla road to the beach--massive trees and branches down, a couple of houses with significant damage and/or trees still on them. It must have been very strong and very fast.
The storm cell looked to be
..around 30 miles across up there when I was watching it on NOAA doppler radar.
The blobs are color coded with red indicating the greatest energy and moisture. It was a fat red thing with a fringe of green moving like an express along the northern border.
The Boston area was well below it and got some of the trailing segments. I have to get back up there soon, now that mosquito die off is beginning, to cover a stretch of the Bay Circuit Trail between the Pingree Reservation in Hamilton and Willowdale in Ipswich.
I bet there will be lots of blow downs.
Merrimack Valley should be interesting too. I'll probably get up to the Deer Jump area by Friday to finish video stuff there.

Crane Estate staff were on scene to administer CPR
and transport the victims via pickup truck to the parking lot, where they were transferred to ambulance, per the Salem News. Strong work.
Good thoughts to the remaining victim.
They are the best.
They work for the Trustees of Reservations, one of the grand old open space preservation organizations dating back to the real progressive era when Theodore Roosevelt was president.

Agreed.
Joining the Trustees of the Reservations is one of the best things we've ever done--they are amazing stewards of some of the most beautiful places in Massachusetts.
