Also - there really needs to be more live music out in the square - hopefully when the substation is finished there will be more activity that direction instead of just back in that patio area. It would be nice if we could get to the point where buskers start coming to adams park... one day...

Amen to the substation buildout including a venue for live music!

There's a bit more already than just the patio scene you mentioned, though. There's live music almost every Saturday at the Farmer's market, and during the summer there's a concert series in Adam's park (not this summer during the reno, obvs). Suya Joint hosts live music events as well. And live music is part of many of the events hosted by the neighborhood churches. (I think even the original (ie not the last) owners of the Rosi Cafe hosted some small performances).

But I think the village will have to get significantly busier before it makes sense for anyone to try to regularly busk in the actual park. I could see someone trying it nearby at the bus stops at Washington/Poplar or in front of the community center (at least when the weather is good).

Iirc, a couple years ago Saxophone-guy made his way through the area, but I don't think there was enough foot traffic to sustain him - I think there wasn't enough even in the middle of WRox, although he gave it a go there.

If there were more businesses opening in the square, would that help? I kid, we've all said our piece on the Petco and don't think it needs to be rehashed here.

In other downtown news, I'll be interested to hear more about the meeting next week (I think?) about the proposed addition of apts. above Tony's. I can't make it unfortunately. I am in favor of more apartments if it can be done in a way which doesn't disrupt the existing businesses too much but the devil is in the details. I suspect people will be pretty strongly against it though as there is a ton of NIMtown sentiment in Roslindale along with a lot of people who want to be able to easily drive to and park in town.

The meeting is December 15 from 6:30-7:30 at the community center, if anyone else is interested in the exact time. I agree that more density would be a great thing for the square, and that it is important both that the construction be high quality and that the businesses not be disrupted.

...perhaps I can interest you in my plan to further develop Roslindale by building a dome over the whole downtown area, like Opryland down in Nashville.

Phase two will be adding direct pneumatic tube connection to Forrest Hills, like I saw in that 'Living Daylights' documentary a few years back.

Opera would be interesting.

Of course, we'll all know when the performance is over.

We all know the answer to that one (snickers...)

Wait for it.....
